Sophie Alexandra Skelton was born and raised in Woodford, Cheshire (United Kingdom). She is the youngest of three, with two older brothers Sam and Roger. Her parents, Simon and Ruth Skelton, are both toy inventors. Having completed her A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, English Literature and Maths she turned down her University offers to pursue her career as an actor, being the first in the family to go into acting. Since she started her career, she appeared on various tv series in the UK, stage work and commercials.
Acting was always what I wanted to do and, when I was younger, I did a lot of stage work. I always loved the rush of being on stage in front of a live audience but it was the more natural approach of TV and film acting that made me want to concentrate on that side of it.
Her television credits include DCI Banks, The Dumping Ground, Waterloo Road, Doctors, Foyle’s War, So Awkward and Casualty. She also starred in a web series Ren: The Girl with the Mark as the lead role. Sophie was also cast as fan-favorite Brianna in STARZ hit show Outlander.
Her first film feature was the WWII drama The War I Knew and more recently she joined Another Mother’s Son as Jess, including a short film titled Blackbird.
Through my ballet school, I was contacted by my first agent. My first TV experience was actually dancing on the mystery guest section of Question of Sport with Ricky Hatton through the Palace Theatre in Manchester whilst in a production of Oliver. However my first official TV job was playing Snow White in Jamie Oliver’s final Sainsbury’s commercial. After that, I went on to do DCI Banks, Doctors, Foyle’s War and Waterloo Road. My first film role was in a WWII movie, where I played the lead female role of a French resistance fighter.
